A new corporate design for 1.8 million Catholics in the Archdiocese of Cologne. A new brand design alone does not create change, but it does help a community effectively express values and goals. In this exceptional project for a branding agency, we combine contemporary design with Christian tradition.

Diversity in design, consistency in symbol. The new logo is a contemporary reinterpretation of the historic crest of the Archdiocese of Cologne. It features an open cross, symbolising the unity of the community and its Christian values. Metaphorically, 4 arrows point to a common centre–a powerful symbol of togetherness and participation.




Togetherness, shared responsibility, and participation. Our design process was based on a multi-stage strategy process. It was also influenced by an extensive organizational change process within the archdiocese. ‘Your creative will is appreciated’ this brand idea became the guiding theme of the design. It focuses on promoting community and participation and respecting the diverse perspectives and needs of the people of the Archdiocese.


The design elements support the narrative of everyday community life from different perspectives. A vibrant color palette, imagery, typography, and consistent illustration style appeal to a wide audience, from young to old. In developing the brand colors, we took our inspiration from the liturgical year.
